I've been lying low for a while, wallowing in self congratulation at living in a real life city of culture. However I did climb down from the cloud for long enough to catch a bit of a discussion on RTE this afternoon. One guy argued that because he had a disabled son who needed full time care he, as the carer, should be given free entry to various events that he took his son to.

He was challenged by a brave woman from Donegal who said that there shouldn't be any free tickets for the carer as a mother with a young child who didn't yet have sufficient life skills to look after him/herself couldn't expect free entry when accompanying the child.

The Donegal woman was outnumbered when another carer joined the first carer in saying that there was a huge difference between looking after a young child and caring for a disabled, wheelchair-bound person who needed care 24/7.

One of the participants said he had been getting free entry to football matches when accompanying a disabled person in a wheelchair. Maybe the Brandwell should prepare for large numbers of readers of this blog arriving in wheelchairs accompanied by an equal number of pushers. They won't be able to say they haven't been warned.
